Beth El has always been, at our core, a family. Connecting our community is at the center of who we are. Volunteering, serving on the board, studying together, mentoring our religious school students or gathering for social action – there are a myriad of ways to get involved and make Beth El your community.

Social Action

Beth El members participate in a variety of projects and programs throughout the year to benefit those less fortunate in the greater Akron area. Here is a partial list of those projects:

  • Knitzvah
  • Mitzvah Day
  • Interfaith Council Walk for Hunger
  • ADL Walk against Hate
  • JCBA Cemetery Clean up

Caring Team

“We are all responsible for one another.” Talmud Shavuot 39a

Beth El has renewed its commitment to the mitzvah of loving our neighbors as ourselves. The Caring Team makes new connections across our community and offers support, visits, meals, and kindness to those experiencing both difficult and uplifting moments. The best thing about the Caring Team is that everyone is on it – we are all part of the mitzvah!

If you are aware of someone who could use personal outreach from the Caring Team, please contact one of our co-chairs, Andrew Rabinovitz or Debbie Saferstein.

  1. Along with Sisterhood, we provide meals to members:
    • Coming home from the hospital
    • Homebound due to illness or injury
    • Those in need of a hot meal
    • Shiva
  2. Helping our members set up Shiva with a checklist
  3. Calling the entire Beth El membership a few times a year to check-in and/or making regular contact with those in need
  4. Arranging additional help from Jewish Family Service, as needed
  5. Delivering holiday bags to in-town congregants
  6. Sponsoring the Sunshine Committee who reach out to congregants with calls, cards, and care

Volunteers are the heart of the Caring Team! Our work is a labor of love, won’t you join us? Interested in volunteering for, or are you in need of services from the Beth El Caring Committee? Please contact us.
